Arrows Big Tournament Favorite
Lima Senior will host the first annual Three Rivers Athletic Conference volleyball championship tournament on Oct. 15. Starting at 10 a.m. the top-seeded St. Ursula Arrows (20-0, 7-0) and top-ranked in the state will take on the #8 seed, host Lima Senior. Lima enters the tournament winless against conference opponents with a 0-7 record. They are 3-15 overall in the season.
At the same time in Lima’s auxiliary gym, #2 seed Central Catholic (14-5, 6-1) will play No. 7 Fremont Ross (3-13, 1-6).
Lima Senior will enter the match as huge underdogs. Not only have they not won a match against conference foes this season, they have also not won a single game against the TRAC, posting a 0-21 game record this season. The Arrows, on the other hand, have only lost three games to TRAC opponents and seven games overall throughout the entire season.
Central Catholic sports a 20-5 game record against the TRAC, right behind St. Ursula.
The other opening round matches include #3 seed Findlay against the sixth seeded Whitmer, and #4 seed Notre Dame Academy taking on #5 seed Clay.
Findlay’s stats and season record might indicate they performed well enough to finish higher in the conference with their overall match record (15-4) and overall game record (44-15). The Trojans are first in the conference in points scored against the league with 645.
Findlay’s first conference loss was to the first place Arrows. But it was the second loss that made the difference and pushed them from #2 to #3. On October 3, the Trojans visited Central Catholic, who was right behind them in third place. The match went a full five games, with three of the games being decided by five points or less. When it was over the Fighting Irish had won, taking the second seed for themselves just before the tournament was set to begin.
Freshman and JV conference results and tournament seedings can be found on the volleyball page.
