The St. Ursula Arrows fell to Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame in the Division I state volleyball championship on Saturday, Novbember 12. The defending champions fell in four sets, 25-14, 25-22, 23-25, 25-8.
The Arrows earned a chance to defend its 2010 state championship by winning in the state semifinals in straight sets over Walsh Jesuit (25-16, 27-25, 25-18). Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame earned a bid to face St. Ursula in the finals, by winning in four sets over TRAC-member Findlay. Findlay dropped a hard-fought match against the state’s #2 squad, (25-21, 26-28, 25-15, 25-15).
Arrows & Trojans Earn Trip to States
St. Ursula looks to defend their Division I state championship when they return to the Nutter Center at Wright State University Nov. 11 for semifinal action. The Arrows will be joined by the Findlay Trojans from the TRAC. The Arrows topped Rocky River Magnificat 25-13, 25-23, 25-22 to win the Division I regional. They will face Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit (20-7) at 2 p.m.
The 22-5 Trojans face Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame, also 22-5, at noon. Findlay advanced in dramatic fashion coming from behind in the regional final beat Pickerington North 17-25, 25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 15-9.
St. Ursula & Findlay Win District Titles
The St. Ursula Arrows defeated Central Catholic in straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) October 29 to remain perfect for the season and win the Division I district volleyball final at Perrysburg High School. The Arrows face Avon Lake in the regional semifinals at 6 p.m. November 2 at Norwalk.
Findlay topped Mansfield Senior in straight sets (25-3, 25-9, 25-17). The Trojans will play at Hilliard Davidson High School on November 2 against the winner of the Newark and Columbus Watterson match.
TRAC Tournament Results
The Arrows were perfect in the TRAC and for the season, winning three tournament matches without losing a set to take the first-ever Three Rivers Athletic Conference volleyball tournament. The Arrows topped host Lima Senior 25-9,25-8 in the first round. They followed up with straight set wins over Notre Dame (27-25, 25-19) and Findlay (25-15, 25-17) to claim the title.
