Entering the game tied for first place in Three River Athletic Conference play St. John’s Jesuit, featuring Ohio State-bound Marc Loving, knocked off host Whitmer, which features its own Big 10 recruit in Wisconsin-bound Nigel Hayes, in a 52-51 thriller on January 22. 

With the win, St. John’s (12-3 / 7-1 TRAC) claims sole possession of the top spot in the TRAC standings.  Whitmer (11-3 / 6-2 TRAC) dropped to second place followed by Central Catholic (9-2/ 5-2 TRAC) and Findlay (8-5 / 5-2 TRAC) which share the third-place position.

The fans that packed the Whitmer gymnasium were treated to a marquee duel between Loving and Hayes.  Marc Loving scored 19 points for the Titans victory while Nigel Hayes countered with 27 points. 

During the game, Loving eclipsed the St. John’s individual career scoring record of 1,466 point established by B.J. Raymond (2001-2005).  He currently has 1,471 points with seven regular season games left to play before heading into post-season tournament play.
