Notre Dame repeated as the girls 2013 Three Rivers Athletic Conference track and field champions. The Eagles team posted the same score of 153.5 points as they did in last year’s inaugural championship meet. This year’s championship meet was held on May 15 and 17, 2013 at Central Catholic High School’s Gallagher Stadium in Toledo, Ohio.
Notre Dame junior sprinter Chantalia Young crossed the finished line first in the 100 Meter and 200 Meter dashes and ran the winning anchor leg of the 4 x 100 Meter Relay race to lead her team to their second consecutive conference title.
Whitmer finished a distant second with 115 points followed by Clay (108 points), Central Catholic (97.5 points), Fremont Ross (82 points), Findlay (56 points), St. Ursula Academy (29 points), and Lima Senior (21 points).
Clay junior Erin Gyurke was named the TRAC female Athlete of the Year in the running events based on her first place finishes in the 1600 Meter and 3200 Meter runs and her relay team’s record-setting performance in the 4 x 800 Meter Relay that was run on May 15.
Two other Clay athletes established new meet records. Freshman Haley Hess outran the pack in the 800 Meter Dash (2:20.97) and senior Nicole Breeden threw the discus 136 feet 2 inches to better the old mark by a mere two inches.
Alaya Hayes, a junior at Whitmer, won the shot put event with a record-breaking throw 41 feet six and a half inches. She was named as the co-recipient of the TRAC female Athlete of the Year award in the field events along with Fremont Ross senior Ariana Spencer who won the long jump competition.
Pole vaulters Kaitlyn Barber, a junior at Whitmer, and Notre Dame senior Hannah Saba tied the meet record with respective vaults of ten feet. Barber won the event based on fewer misses.
Clay head coach Scott Wamer was named the TRAC Coach of the Year.
